Americans' optimism about quality jobs reaches highest level in recent election years

WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Up to 42 percent of Americans believe now is a good time to find a quality job, the highest level in presidential election years since 2004, said a monthly Gallup poll released on Tuesday.

The rate is higher than the levels observed in October of recent presidential election years, which were 22 percent in 2012, 14 percent in 2008 and 29 percent in 2004, said the poll.

Americans' optimism about quality jobs fell to the lowest level after the global economic recession in 2008, which was 8 percent in November 2009 and November 2011.

Since then, the percentage has increased steadily and reached about 40 percent in 2015 and has kept stable in 2016, as U.S. unemployment rate kept falling and remained at a relative low level of 5 percent since August 2015, said Gallup.

The poll also found Democrats are more optimistic about the job market than Republicans as 56 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents say it's good time to find a quality job, compared with 26 percent of Republicans and Republican leaners.
