ARUSHA, Tanzania, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- A freak gust of wind blew off part of a school roof in northwestern Tanzania's region of Kagera, leaving six students with serious injuries, authorities said Tuesday.

A sheet of aluminum cladding was lifted clean off Byamutemba Primary School in the region's Misenyi District.

Limbe Mourice, Misenyi district executive director, confirmed the rare accident, saying it occurred on Tuesday noon when students were outside the classrooms.

He explained that six rooms were affected, and so did some residential houses near the school.

"We have closed down the school until further notice, so that the government rebuilds the school buildings," the official said, noting that the injured students were rushed to the nearby health facilities for observation and treatment.

The incident came barely a month when the region was hit by earthquakes, which killed 17 people and injured more than 200. Enditem
