PYONGYANG, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Tuesday slammed South Korean President Park Geun-hye for her recent remarks on the "collapse of the North" and accused her of seeking inter-Korean confrontation.
"The real intention of Park is to shore up the totally bankrupt policy of escalating confrontation with the DPRK ... and defuse the ruling crisis," said a spokesman for the DPRK's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country.
The spokesman condemned Park for her calls for defection from the DPRK and her remarks on Sunday saying that the country is threatening the future of the Korean peninsula and that it must be forced to change.
On Oct. 1, President Park Geun-hye appealed to the DPRK people and called on them to defect from the North when she addressed a ceremony marking the country's Armed Forces Day.
"The universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and welfare are the precious rights you should also enjoy," Park said then in a message to the people of the DPRK.
Park has also said that the North will face a collapse of government if it does not give up its nuclear program.
But Pyongyang insisted that it will hold fast to the line of Byungjin, or the simultaneous development of nuclear capability and economic growth, unless the United States abandons its "anachronistic anti-DPRK policy."
