SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- At least nine paramilitary troopers of India's Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) were wounded Friday after militants attacked them in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.
The attack was carried out Friday evening in outskirts of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"This evening militants attacked convoy of SSB in Zakura locality on the outskirts of Srinagar wounding nine paramilitary troopers," Rajesh Yadav, spokesman of India's Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) told Xinhua.
"The wounded troopers were immediately removed to hospital and condition of some of them is critical."
Officials said the vehicles of SSB were ferrying the personnel to their camp after performing the day's routine duty.
Reports said following the attack contingents of police and paramilitary cordoned off the area to track down the militants.
Separatist movement and guerilla war challenging New Delhi's rule is going on in Indian-controlled Kashmir since 1989. Gunfight between militants and Indian troops takes place intermittently across the region.
Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their Independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
