KAMPALA, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Five Ugandan athletes on Thursday left for China to participate in the Nanjing Marathon.

Dominic Otuchet, president of the Uganda Athletics Federation said Alex Malinga and James Kibet will participate in the full marathon on Oct. 16.

"We shall also have Peter Kibet, Wycliffe Kiptoyek and the only female Emily Chebet participate in the half marathon," Otuchet said.

"We are confident our athletes will have a good time and compete well with top other runners from Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea and China," added Otuchet.

2012 Olympic gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich will not be at the event as he is recovering from fatigue after the 2016 Rio Olympic Games where he finished 16th.
