BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's national political advisors called for better care services to be provided for the country's senior citizens at a meeting in Beijing on Thursday.

Members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee agreed that in spite of achievements made in recent years, China still faces challenges in eldercare, such as unbalanced services between urban and rural regions and an inadequate pension fund, according to a statement issued after the meeting.

The meeting was presided over by Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.

The attendees urged the government to encourage the participation of social forces in eldercare services.

They also called for enhanced efforts in promoting home-based and community-based care for the aged, and improving services in the rural areas.

Meanwhile, the advisors said the management of eldercare should be strengthened, ensuring professional and standardized services being provided to the senior citizens.
