PHNOM PENH, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Thursday expressed his condolences over the death of Thailand's most revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

"His decease is a great loss not only for Thailand and the Thai people, but also for all friends around the world," Hun Sen wrote in a condolence message sent to Thai Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha.

He said Bhumibol Adulyadet had dedicated his entire life to the nation's unity and the prosperity and happiness of Thai people.

"His wise kingship and tireless devotion to his nation, with great personality, will be always remembered by all Thai people," the Cambodian leader said.

"In this moment of deepest sadness for you and your country, allow me, on behalf of the Royal Government and people of Cambodia, to extend my heartfelt sympathies and profound condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and all members of royal family, as well as the Government and the people of Thailand, for this great loss," Hun Sen said.

Bhumibol Adulyadet, the longest reigning monarch in the world, died on Thursday at the age of 88 after a long illness.
