HANOI, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam held a seminar on Thursday to discuss application of atomic energy in healthcare, industry and agriculture.
According to Hoang Anh Tuan, head of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Agency under Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam now houses 32 centers for nuclear medicine, 25 radiotherapy centers and 174 computed tomography (CT) scanners.
In industry, gamma rays have been used in the garment-textile sector and petro-chemistry, said Tuan at the seminar, suggesting for more experts in radiation and radioactive isotope to be trained as the country is now thirsty for experts in this field.
Delegates at the event also discussed the legal system, mechanisms and policies, as well as state management in scientific-technological development, application in order to ensure safety and security of atomic energy, reported Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA.
Participants stressed the need to import more technologies and organize workshops with participation of foreign partners to hasten the application of atomic energy in socio-economic development.
