TOKYO, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares closed lower Thursday morning following the yen's sudden rise.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 65.74 points, or 0.39 percent, from Wednesday to 16,774.26.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 1.87 points, or 0.14 percent, to 1,340.48.
Decliners were led by iron and steel, pulp and paper and marine transportation issues.
