SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Two paramilitary troopers of India's Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and eight civilians were wounded Tuesday in a grenade attack in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.
The grenade attack was carried out at Shopian town, about 48 km south of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Today unknown militants hurled a grenade on CRPF party at marketplace in Shopian, which exploded on the road wounding two CRPF men and eight civilian pedestrians," a police official said. "The wounded were immediately removed to hospital for treatment."
Officials said police and CRPF contingents cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt to nab the militants. However, there were no reports of arrests until late.
So far no militant outfit has claimed responsibility of the attack.
Meanwhile, the gunfight at a government building in Pampore town has entered second day. Officials said militants believed to be two or three entered inside multi-storey government building of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) and engaged contingents of troops and police.
On Monday, a trooper and a policeman were wounded fighting the militants.
Authorities have suspended the traffic on highway passing through the town in wake of the stand-off.
Earlier this year in Feb. militants entered adjacent building in the premises and engaged Indian troops for 48 hours. Nine people including three militants and three Indian army troopers were killed in the gunfight, besides 13 paramilitary were wounded.
The building suffered massive damage because of the heavy exchange of gunfire and mortar shells.
Separatist movement and guerilla war challenging New Delhi's rule is going on in Indian-controlled Kashmir since 1989. Gunfight between militants and Indian troops takes place intermittently across the region.
Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan is claimed by both in full. Since their Independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
