BERLIN, Oct.10(Xinhua) --The suspect Jaber al-Bakr arrested after the police found explosive materials in east Germany, had probably contacts with the Islamic State (IS), said head of the State Office of Criminal Investigation in Sachsen, Joerg Michaelis, on Monday.

"The behavior of the suspect indicates context to IS", Michaelis told a press conference.

German police found explosive materials on Saturday morning after raiding a residential area in Chemnitz which was believed to be the suspect's hiding place.

According to Michaelis, the police found in the apartment among other things two detonators, several hundred grams of explosives in crystalline form. The experts assumed that it could be triacetone triperoxide (TATP), the explosive used in the Paris attacks.

The suspect was arrested on Sunday night in German city of Leipzig.

"The most important message is that the terror suspect has been arrested," said Saxony state's interior minister Markus Ulbig at the press conference, adding that the arrest of the suspect and the fact that a bomb attack had been prevented represented a "great success."

The 22-year-old Syrian refugee, who arrived in Germany last year, was thought to have planned and prepared for an explosive attack in a German airport, and has been under police surveillance for a long time.
