ZAGREB, Oct.10 (Xinhua) -- Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic on Monday mandated the main party Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)'s leader Andrej Plenkovic as prime minister-designate to form a new government.
Grabar-Kitarovic said after holding talks with Plenkovic that he has proved he has support of majority of deputies.
Plenkovic, who got the supports from 91 elected deputies in the 151-seat parliament, said he would undertake to form the government soon and would put the economic revival, job creation and demographic revival as priorities of his cabinet.
Plenkovic, 46, a former diplomat, is expected to form his cabinet within the next 30 days.
HDZ won 61 seats in the early parliamentary election on Sept. 11 and agreed to form a coalition government with MOST party, the third winner in the election with 13 seats after month-long negotiations.
The two parties had formed a coalition government after the November 2015 elections, but the government stepped down five months later following a no-confidence vote.
