Bulgaria detains 65 illegal immigrants hidden in train carrying iron ore

SOFIA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian border police detained 65 illegal immigrants traveling in a train coming from Turkey, at the country's Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on early Monday morning, officials said.

The guards spotted those hidden into a car of a train carrying iron ore, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

The people presented themselves as Syrian nationals, the ministry said, adding that the authorities found that the migrants entered the car by cutting its canvas covering. The investigation is ongoing.

Bulgaria is located on a direct route of refugee flows from Turkey to Central Europe. According to official data, the Ministry of Interior arrested 31,281 illegal immigrants in 2015.
