TIRANA, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Albanian state police found and destroyed more than 2.4 million cannabis plants from January-October 2016, Albanian state police director general Haki Cako said Friday.
He said 248 out of 400 suspects were taken into custody for related charges, adding Albanian state police conducted more than 1,260 operations to identify, find and destroy narcotic plants across Albania.
About 9,000 police officers were involved in the operations aimed at eradicating the cultivation of narcotics plants in the Albanian territory.
Cako made these statements at a conference held to mark the conclusion of the aerial reconnaissance missions conducted by specialized aircraft of Italy's Guardia di Finanza to identify cannabis plantations in Albania.
According to Italian officials, around 99.8 percent of the cannabis plants in the identified areas had been destroyed by Albanian police. A total of 42 aerial reconnaissance missions were conducted all over the country during the 10-month period. Enditem
