SEOUL, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- LG Electronics saw a profit fall in the third quarter due to faltering smartphone sales that were offset by better performance in consumer electronics and TVs, the company said on Friday.
The South Korean tech giant posted its preliminary figure for operating profit at 283.2 billion won (254 million U.S. dollars) during the July-September period, down 3.7 percent from a year earlier.
It more than halved compared with 584.6 billion won of operating profit in the previous quarter due to underperformance in smartphone sales.
Revenue fell 5.8 percent from a year earlier to 13.22 trillion won in the third quarter. From the previous quarter, it declined 5.6 percent.
The earnings results missed market expectations of 13.68 trillion won in revenue and 303.7 billion won in operating profit compiled by the local financial data provider FN Guide.
Detailed earnings result for the third quarter would be announced later this month.
