BERLIN, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- General and vocational schools in Germany admitted almost 300,000 young immigrants in the past school year, according to a statement made by culture ministers from 16 federal states on Thursday.
The German education system has proved to be a viable way to integrate young refugees, and local governments have made great efforts toward that aim in recent months, said the statement released from their conference.
The statement highlighted that the goals and challenges before the educational system were quick language acquisition, the instruction of democratic values, and vocational training or academic study.
A large number of school-aged refugee children and youth still pose great challenges to the German education sector, according to the statement.
The conference of culture ministers from German federal states plays a significant role in the coordination and development of education in the country.
