SKOPJE, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The total value of Macedonia's exported goods from January to August amounted to 172 billion denars (about 3.14 billion U.S. dollars), marking a 6.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year, State Statistical Office of Macedonia said Wednesday.

According to preliminary data published by the office, the value of imported goods in the same period was 242.5 billion denars, registering an increase of 5.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

The export growth was mainly driven by exports of precious metal, precious metal compounds, ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets used in vehicles, aircraft or ships, ferro-nickel and clothes.

In terms of imports, growth was driven mainly by products such as the platinum and platinum alloys, petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude), other metals of the platinum group and electricity, according to the office.

During the period, Macedonia's major trading partners were Germany, Britain, Serbia, Greece and Bulgaria.
