U.S.-led airstrikes kill 20, wound 40 in northern Syria

DAMASCUS, Oct.5 (Xinhua) -- At least 60 people were either killed or wounded on Wednesday by U.S.-led airstrikes on a village in the northern province of Aleppo, state news agency SANA reported.

Warplanes of the U.S.-led anti-terror coalition carried out a "massacre" against civilians in the countryside of the city al-Bab in northern Aleppo after midnight, killing 20 civilians and injuring 40 others, said SANA.

The airstrikes also caused huge damage to tens of homes in the village of Thulthana.

SANA branded the incident as "another crime to be added to the criminal records of Washington and its allies."

Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it's not clear yet whether the warplanes were with the U.S.-led coalition or from Turkish air force.

It also said that 33 people were killed and 30 others wounded in the strikes, adding that the death toll will likely rise due to the number of the critically wounded.

The village is 16 km northwest of the city Bab in the northern countryside of Aleppo, and it's largely inhabited by Kurdish Syrians.

The U.S.-led coalition has been bombing Islamic State (IS) positions in Syria since 2014. Many reports indicated the falling of civilian victims by the strikes.

Turkey has been alarmed with the growing influence of the Kurds in northern Syria, repeatedly saying it was aiming to impose a safe zone in northern Syria to keep the Kurds away from its backdoor.
