ZAGREB, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Croatia is to meet its obligations concerning migrant resettlement, Croatian foreign minister Miro Kovac said on Monday after Hungary's referendum on the issue.
The results of the referendum showed there were differing opinions on the migrant crisis and now it is important to reach a consensus in the European Union (EU), he said.
Croatia has committed to accepting 1,600 migrants as part of the EU's resettlement plan and it would meet its obligations, he added.
Also on Monday, Andrej Plenkovic, president of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and expected prime minister, said that despite a low turnout, the message expressed by Hungarian voters must be taken into account by the Hungarian government and the EU as well.
About 98.28 percent of the Hungarian voters on Sunday chose the "no" option in a referendum on whether to accept the EU's scheme for migrant quotas. But turnover was only 39.8 percent, far below the necessary 50 percent for the referendum to be valid.
