MADRID, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Spain's car sales rose by 13.9 percent in September when compared with the same month of a year earlier, according to data released on Monday by organizations of the sector.

Various car manufacturing or dealership associations said purchases reached 79,591 in September.

Companies bought 28,387 units which meant a 17.1- percent increase year-on-year; individuals bought 46,514 cars, which meant a 9-percent rise year-on-year, and rental companies purchased 4,690 units, indicating a 59.6-percent rise.

In the first nine months of the year, purchases reached 874,220, an 11.5-percent rise when compared with the same period of a year earlier.

David Barrientos, communication director at the Association of Car Manufacturers (ANFAC) emphasized the importance of domestic demand for cars in Spain.

Juan Antonio Sanchez Torres, president of the Association of Car Dealers (GANVAM), said the sector would go on growing in 2016 and called for new initiatives to boost the sector.

Meanwhile, Jaume Roure, president of the Federation of Association of Dealers of the Automotive sector (FACONAUTO), said September figures could be worrying when it came to individuals and companies purchases as they were lower than they had expected.
