AMMAN, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday said the country will not tolerate any attempts to use religion to incite sectarianism and hatred, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
Chairing a meeting with community leaders in Balqa governorate, the King said this is a red line that no one will be allowed to cross.
The Kingdom will not allow any attempts to harm national unity, he said, stressing that protecting the country's stability and unity is top priority.
The King's remarks came after authorities rounded up several social media activist over the past week for seeking to sow seeds of sedition in the society.
King Abdullah said Jordan will take measures to address poverty and unemployment, expressing hope that the international community will honor its commitments to Jordan.
The King said the closure of northern borders with Syria is to protect the security of the country.
The Monarch said the international community needs to shoulder its responsibilities in helping reducing the pressure imposed by Syrian refugees on Jordan, especially since the country is home to 1.4 million Syrian refugees.
Jordan has been repeatedly calling on donor countries to increase aid to the Kingdom as aid Jordan received did not meet the country's needs.
