SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- A troop belonging to India's Border Security Force (BSF) was killed and another wounded in an overnight militant attack on an Indian army camp in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said on Monday.

The army camp was attacked Sunday night in Baramulla town, 53 km southwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"During the attack two BSF personnel were wounded, of whom one succumbed to his wounds at the hospital," a senior police official said. "The firing has stopped but we have started searches immediately after the dawn."

Locals told Xinhua that they heard sound of heavy gunfire and explosions on Sunday night.

"We heard the gunfire and a few explosions nearby last night," Altaf Ahmad said. "Immediately, I switched off all the lights in my house and then a news came on TV that an army camp has been attacked in our neighborhood."

Indian army officials said they have repulsed the attack.

"Situation at Baramulla was contained and is under control," army spokesman said.

So far there are no reports about how many militants attacked the camp. However, unconfirmed reports said a militant was also killed during the stand-off.

The attack came two weeks after a similar attack on army base in neighboring town of Uri left 19 troopers dead and over 20 others wounded. The four attackers were also killed.
