Vietnam reports fewer food poisoning fatalities in January-September

HO CHI MINH CITY, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam witnessed 100 food poisoning cases between January and September, which sickened 3,016 people and killed nine, its Preventive Health Department said on Saturday.

The Southeast Asian Nation saw 103 food poisoning cases which affected 3,132 people, including 18 deaths in the same period last year.

Vietnam detected over 25,700 foot-and-mouth disease patients, 68,700 dengue fever cases including 21 fatalities, and 686 viral encephalitis including 17 fatalities, in the first nine months of this year.

Vietnam currently has 229,400 HIV carriers, of whom 86,800 have become AIDS patients, the department said. To date, some 88,400 people in the country have died of AIDS-related diseases.
