KUNMING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province said on Friday a suspect confessed to killing 19 people after a conflict with his parents, who were among the victims.

Yang Qingpei, born in 1989, returned to his hometown of Yema Village in Huize County on Wednesday and allegedly killed his parents following a fight while trying to ask them for money, said a statement issued by the Yunnan provincial public security department.

Fearing he would be discovered by community members, Yang allegedly killed 17 neighbors, including three children, before escaping to the provincial capital of Kunming, where he works.

After a field investigation, police identified Yang as the suspect and caught him the next day in Kunming.

Further investigation led by the Ministry of Public Security is under way.
