SUICHANG, Zhejiang, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were confirmed dead in a landslide that hit a village in east China's Zhejiang Province Wednesday, local authorities said Friday.
As of 2 a.m. Friday, 15 people have been rescued and 23 others remain missing.
Rainstorms caused by Typhoon Megi led to about 400,000 cubic meters of debris sliding down mountains and burying 20 houses in Sucun Village, Suichang County on Wednesday.
Hu Suping, party chief of the village, said the landslide started when she and other cadres were persuading residents to relocate.
Pychologists have been dispatched to temporary shelters to offer counselling to villagers relocated after the disaster.
A restaurant in Suichang County stayed open overnight to provide free noodles for rescuers.
A firefighter who had been working for more than 24 hours told Xinhua that they could not stop the rescue work. "A little more persistence from rescuers will bring more chances to find survivors," he said.
