LAGOS, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria is committed to the repatriation of looted funds stashed in foreign banks to boost the economy, Minister of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.

Addressing a post-UN General Assembly news conference in Abuja, foreign minister Geoffrey Onyeama said the government had earlier identified some countries where Nigeria's funds were stashed away and was working closely with them.

"A lot of countries where Nigeria's stolen money were lodged made restitution and are trying to repatriate the money," he said.

According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari held meetings with leaders of several countries, including U.S. President Barack Obama and UK Prime Minister Theresa May, on the issue of repatriation, among others.

The minister told reporters that the world leaders pledged their commitment to ensure speedy repatriation of the funds to Nigeria.
