Chinese state councilor calls for building high-level China-Myanmar strategic partnership

NAY PYI TAW, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun has called for efforts to build a high-level China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Guo, who is on a visit to Myanmar to co-chair the 5th meeting of China-Myanmar Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation, made the call when he met with Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw in Nay Pyi Taw Tuesday.

Guo said the China-Myanmar "Paukphaw" (fraternal) friendship is long standing with neighborly friendship deepening.

He called on the two sides to seize the trend of China-Myanmar friendship and cooperation, focus on implementing the important consensus between leaders of the two countries, and make efforts to build a high-level China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

The China-Myanmar cooperation in law enforcement and security has made steady progress, he said.

Guo said China is willing to work with Myanmar to take the opportunity of the meeting to deepen cooperation in various fields including anti-terrorism, anti-drug, security in major projects and border administration, among others.

Describing the Myanmar-China friendship as having a deep foundation, U Htin Kyaw said Myanmar will not forget the support and assistance rendered by the Chinese side in Myanmar's peace process, economic development and improvement of people's living standard.

He said Myanmar is ready to join hands with China to carry out closer high-level exchanges and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields, so that peoples from the two nations can better benefit from cooperation between the two sides.

He added that law enforcement and security cooperation is an indispensable part of the bilateral ties, expressing hope that positive achievements can be made in exchanges and cooperation in this field.
