Bangladesh marks World Tourism Day

DHAKA, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- As elsewhere in the world, Bangladesh Tuesday observed the World Tourism Day in their own unique way to foster awareness among the local and foreign communities of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values.

Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB), the National Tourism Organization (NTO) and Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC), under the supervision of the country's Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, arranged a series of programs as part of observing the day on Tuesday.

The day's program began with a colorful rally in Dhaka led by senior officials of the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry.

Different stakeholders of Bangladesh's tourism sector including Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB), Association of Travel Agencies of Bangladesh (ATAB) and tourism related foundations and cultural organizations also joined the rally.

Bangladesh's national dailies published special supplements while television and radio broadcast various programs marking the day which is also being celebrated with many events including folk music, discounts on food and accommodations at hotels and motels and seminars across the country.

Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day on Sept. 27.
