ANKARA, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Consulate General in Turkey has warned of potential terror attacks targeting U.S.-branded hotels in the southeastern Turkish province of Adana.

In a statement on its website late Monday, the Consulate said it obtained specific and credible threats of potential terrorist activity targeting U.S.-branded hotels in Adana.

U.S. citizens in Adana are advised to exercise caution when patronizing these establishments, it added.

The city of Adana is about 16 km from the Incirlik Air Base, which the U.S. military uses to launch attacks against Islamic State (IS) militants in Syria.

Meanwhile, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Ankara on Tuesday to hold a series of meetings with Turkish officials on issues of cooperation in the fight against IS and discuss other bilateral and strategic issues, Turkish Hurriyet Daily reported.

The U.S. Department of State continues to warn U.S. citizens of increased threats from terrorist groups throughout Turkey, suggesting that its citizens should avoid travel to southeastern Turkey and carefully consider the risks of travel to and throughout the country.
