SYDNEY, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Australia's largest honey company Capilano has produced the world's first clinically-tested prebiotic honey, Beeotic, which will be sold locally and to China.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk in a statement on Tuesday said Beeotic will be sold to Australian supermarkets and pharmacies with great emphasis placed to the Chinese middle class consumers who have in the past developed a penchant for Australian honey produce.

"Capilano's timing in targeting the Asian market is perfect, this economy is growing at a phenomenal rate and by the year 2030, it's projected that Asia will account for two-thirds of the world's middle class," she said.

"Chinese consumers love natural products and already embrace the health benefits of honey, so Beeotic has great potential to be a great boost for Queensland exports," she said.

She also said was delighted to see a local company like Capilano competing on the world stage through its expansion into China.

"It shows great confidence in the Queensland economy that a company like Capilano, is creating cutting edge products, creating local jobs and investing and expanding their business here in Queensland," Palaszczuk said.

Meanwhile, a Capilano spokeswoman said Beeotic honey was the world's-first, clinically tested prebiotic honey, supplied by Capilano's network of beekeeping families across Australia.

"This premium Australian honey provides a natural source of prebiotics, which may help improve the good-to-bad bacteria ratio in your gut and boost your digestive health," the spokeswoman said.

"Beeotic is 100 percent pure Australian honey as are all Capilano branded products sold both in Australia and internationally," she said.

The spokeswoman said Capilano has received interest from its Chinese partners and looks forward to working with them to bring Beeotic to Chinese consumers in due course.

Capilano managing director Ben McKee in a statement said Beeotic was a result of extensive research and a world-first clinical study conducted through the University of New South Wales to identify the widely recognized, but until now unproven, prebiotic health potential of selected Australian honeys.

At present, Chinese consumers have access to two of Capilano's brand which is "Capilano Honey" sold on supermarket shelves in China and "Allowrie" which is sold to Chinese consumers via websites such as Taobao.
