China moves up on Asian Beach Games medal tally

HANOI, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday moved up two spots against Sunday to rank the 3rd on the medal table of the ongoing the 5th Asian Beach Games in Vietnams central Da Nang city.

On Monday, Chinese man Zhong Peifeng grabbed a gold medal in the long jump event with the result of 7.53 meters. Meanwhile, his compatriot Wang Wenfeng lost a gold medal to Vietnamese fighter Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat in the Muay final.

By Monday evening, Thailand had topped the medal tally with 15 golds, 8 silvers and 11 bronzes, followed by Vietnam with 9 golds, 12 silvers and 18 bronzes, and China with 5 golds, 5 silvers and 8 bronzes.

Nearly 3,000 athletes from 42 countries and territories are vying for 172 sets of medals at 14 events of the 5th Asian Beach Games.

At the previous tournament in Thailand, the host topped the medal tally with 56 golds, 37 silvers and 33 bronzes, followed by China, Iran, South Korea and Vietnam.
