Hamburg sack coach Labbadia due to poor results

Source: Xinhua   2016-09-26 08:35:54

BERLIN, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Struggling Hamburg have sacked coach Bruno Labbadia with immediate effect, the "HSV" confirmed in an official statement via the club's official homepage on Sunday.

After Saturday's 1-0 loss to front-runners Bayern Munich, Hamburg's club officials have agreed on the dismissal of Labbadia and his assistants due to poor results.

"This step is necessary in the light of our trend," chairman Dietmar Beiersdorfer said. "I am convinced that we need to make a change on the coach position to ensure a turnaround after our disappointing start into the season."

The "HSV" reaped only one point out of five games. The 1-0 loss to Bayern was the fourth straight loss and sealed Labbadia's fate.

The 50-year-old coach joined Hamburg, for the second time, in April 2015 and helped the "Rothosen" to avoid the club's first ever relegation into the second division last season.

Hamburg sit currently on the 16th place of the Bundesliga standings.
