BUDAPEST, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Bass singer Alexander Roslavets of Belarus won the Grand Prix at the 2nd Eva Marton operatic singing competition here on Saturday.
Roslavets also won the audience award.
The first prize went to baritone/bass baritone Ankhbayar Enkhbold of Mongolia, while the second prize winner was soprano Lilla Horti of Hungary, and the third prize was awarded to soprano Lucyna Jarzabek of Poland.
The competition got underway this past January when over 100 young singers form five continents submitted entries.
Some 77 singers passed the initial muster and 48 singers arrived in Budapest to compete. Of them 10 were chosen to sing in the finals, held at the Hungarian Academy of Music.
The contestants were accompanied by the Hungarian State Opera House Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Balazs Kocsar.
The competition is named for internationally acclaimed operatic soprano Eva Marton, who taught at the Hungarian Academy of Music after a long stage career and who organized the competition. She chaired the jury that awarded the prizes.
