MOSCOW, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation (CEC) approved on Friday the results of Sunday's election of the State Duma, in which six parties and a self-nominated candidate were elected to the seventh parliament of Russia.
"Russia's ruling United Russia party has 343 seats and enables a constitutional majority," CEC Deputy Chairman Nikolai Bulaev said.
The Communist Party received 42 seats, the Liberal Democratic Party 39, A Just Russia Party 23 while Rodina ("Motherland") and Civic Platform get one seat respectively, Bulaev said.
Under Russia's electoral system, 225 seats in the State Duma are awarded by proportional representation in the federal electoral district and the other 225 are elected in single-member districts (majority system).
In the federal electoral district, the threshold for eligibility to win seats is five percent.
The United Russia Party passed the five percent threshold with 140 seats, the Communist Party 35, the Liberal Democratic Party 34 and A Just Russia Party 16, he said.
The other parties did not pass the threshold.
Candidates from six parties won in the 225 single-member districts.
Candidates from United Russia were elected in 203 single-member districts, those of Communist and A Just Russia Parties were respectively elected in seven single-member districts, the Liberal Democratic Party was elected in five while Rodina and the Civil Platform Party were each elected in one single-member district, he added.
Besides candidates from six parties, a self-nominated candidate was elected in one single-member district, Bulaev said.
The election of the 7th State Duma was held on Sept. 18. About 47.9 percent of some 110 million Russians participated in the election.
