MOSCOW, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- President Vladimir Putin has officially appointed Sergey Naryshkin as head of Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, the president's press office said Thursday.
"Sergey Naryshkin is appointed the head of Russian Foreign Intelligence Service," the press office said in a statement.
Prior to becoming the parliament speaker in 2011, Naryshkin served as the Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office during 2008-2011 and deputy prime minister during 2004-2008.
Meanwhile, according to the Kremlin press office, Mikhail Fradkov, the outgoing head of Russian Foreign Intelligence, will leave office on Oct. 5 due to retirement.
Both decrees, signed by President Putin, will be effective from Oct. 5, the president's press office said.
