RAMALLAH, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Three Palestinian prisoners ended their 60-day hunger strike in Israeli jails on Wednesday after reaching an agreement with Israeli authorities to not renew their administrative detention.
Eassa Quaraqea', chairman of the Palestinian Prisoners' Corporation in Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), confirmed to Xinhua that the three prisoners, who received medical treatment at Israeli hospitals, ended their hunger strike on Wednesday.
"The three prisoners will be freed right after their Israeli administrative detention expires, as Israeli authorities agreed not to extend their detention without a trial," said Quaraqea'.
He added that one of the three prisoners, Malek al-Qadi, will finish his current Israeli administrative detention term on Thursday.
Quaraqea' added that the other two prisoners, brothers Mohamed and Mahmoud al-Balboul, will be released from Israeli jails by Dec. 8 when their administrative detention term ends.
"Reaching a deal to not renew their administrative detention in exchange for them to end their hunger strike is a Palestinian victory thanks to President Mahmoud Abbas's efforts as well as those of the prisoners' corporation," said Quaraqea'.
Over the past four years, prisoners held by Israel under administrative detention without charges or trial have been protesting against this measure by going on hunger strikes. Most prisoners succeeded to oblige Israel not to renew their detention.
According to the prisoners' corporation, 750 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons under administrative detention, without charges and without even appearing at an Israeli court for trial.
