TOKYO, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares opened lower Wednesday on the strong yen with market players waiting cautiously for outcome of the Bank of Japan's policy meeting ending later in the day.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 48.98 points, or 0.30 percent, from Tuesday to 16,443.17.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 3.46 points, or 0.26 percent, to 1,313.51.
Decliners were led by electrical appliance, banking and iron and steel issues.
