ADDIS ABABA, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Nkosazana Dlamani Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, has expressed her deep concern following the excesses that occurred during the demonstrations in Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

The Chairperson is following with grave concern the situation in the DR Congo, said an AU statement on Tuesday.

The Chairperson has deplored "the serious excesses that occurred during the demonstrations organized by some members of the opposition, which, although they were authorized by the competent authorities, resulted in very regrettable loss of life and significant damage to property."

She has urgently appealed to the Congolese political class as a whole to show restraint and a high sense of responsibility so as to give a chance to the ongoing Inclusive National Political Dialogue now in its final stage, which is the only avenue for a consensus to hold transparent, free, fair and credible elections.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission reiterated AU's commitment to sparing no effort in strengthening the National Political Dialogue in the DR Congo. Enditem
