BISHKEK, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev took a short leave starting from Sept. 20, 2016 due to heart problems, the press service of the Kyrgyz President reported on Tuesday.

"Presumably, the leave can last until October 1, 2016," it said in a statement.

On Monday, the Kyrgyz delegation headed by President Atambayev was heading to New York to attend the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.

On the way to the United States the delegation had to make a change at Turkey's Ataturk Airport in Istanbul as Atambayev complained of chest pains.

After an initial medical examination, doctors detected some heart problems and urged the president to get an in-depth examination. He will be monitored by doctors.

The delegation of Kyrgyzstan will be led by Foreign Minister Erlan Abdyldaev.
