SYDNEY, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- A 12-metre humpback whale entangled in netting in Queensland, Australia has been freed and is swimming back into deeper waters.
The whale became caught in netting in Moreton Bay, north of Brisbane, with Marine Park rangers called around 0700 local time (AEST), local media reported on Tuesday.
Rangers cut the net and the whale was able to free itself around 0830 local time (AEST).
"The net certainly did encumber the whale, there were a few marks around the tail where the net was attached," Steve Hoseck from Marine Parks told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
The bay was very shallow where the whale had become stranded, Hoseck said.
Earlier, several television footage showed boats surrounding the stranded whale while trying to lure it back to deeper waters.
