DR Congo police, protesters clash in capital

KINSHASA, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Police fired teargas to disperse protesters on Monday who marched in the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

Thousands of protesters in the opposition camp were marching against perceived steps to delay the presidential election.

A police officer told Xinhua that the opposition protesters did not respect the engagements of itinerary as agreed by the authorities, and that the police were right to resist.

Burnt tires were seen on the streets in the capital as several streets and avenues were blocked. Enditem
