Sri Lankan president leaves for U.S. to attend UN general assembly

COLOMBO, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, on Sunday left for New York, to attend the 71st sessions of the United Nations General Assembly which is scheduled to be held between Sept. 19 to Sept. 26.

Sirisena is due to address the General Assembly on Sept. 21 -- his second address to the General Assembly since winning the presidency in January 2015.

The President's Media Division said that Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera, Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka, Skills Development and Vocational Training Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, Provincial Council and Local Government Minister Faizer Musthafa were among the delegates who left with Sirisena for New York.
