BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Beijing included garbage and sanitary management during the drafting of its 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020).

Beijing Municipal Management Committee said Thursday that the capital city will roll out measures to make sorting garbage mandatory for households and kitchen waste disposal facilities with a daily capacity of 3,000 tonnes, more than doubling the current scale and enough to cover the rising need, will be promoted.

According to the a survey by the committee, the metropolitan area will create 28,000 tonnes of household garbage a day by 2020, of which 2,900 tonnes would be kitchen waste.

The city government is working on a subsidy scheme to encourage recycling and safe disposal of residential garbage. It want to increase residential garbage treatment capacity to 30,000 tonnes a day by 2020, and recover resources from 60 percent of that.

Zhou Xuesheng, head of the sanitary department with the committee, said Beijing must also process 45 million tonnes of construction waste annually, but it only has less than 3 million tonnes of treatment capacity now.

Currently, the city has six construction waste recycling plants under construction, which would process 8 million tonnes of waste a year, he said.
