BRATISLAVA, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- The highest number of security forces ever in Slovakia will be deployed for safeguarding the informal European Union summit in Bratislava on Friday, it was announced on Wednesday.

Several thousand police officers, soldiers and firefighters will be deployed in Bratislava during the summit, Slovak Interior Minister Robert Kalinak announced at a press briefing.

At the same time, Kalinak called on people from outside Bratislava not to travel to the capital if possible.

Meanwhile, residents of Bratislava would do better if they used the extended four-day weekend -- involving a public holiday of Our Lady of Sorrows on Thursday -- to spend Friday outside the capital.

"It will make the situation easier not only for us but also for them," added Kalinak.

The interior minister pointed out that the traffic restrictions on Friday will be massive. Some key roads will be closed entirely at times, while others may become jammed.

"The penetrability of Bratislava will be really minimal," concluded Kalinak.
