STRASBOURG, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker warned London on Wednesday it may not be granted access to European Union (EU)'s single market if it doesn't allow free movement of EU citizens after Brexit.

"There can be no a la carte access to the single market," Juncker told the European Parliament in Strasbourg in his annual State of the Union address.

"Only those can have unlimited access to the internal market who accept that there will be free access for persons and goods," he added.

During the speech, the president also unveiled plans to establish a EU defense headquarters in order to find common ground for 27 EU member states.

The EU is not in danger of splitting up but must fight "galloping populism", Juncker said.

Juncker's speech came two days before the 27 EU leaders meet for a summit without Britain in Bratislava aiming to draw up a future roadmap after Britain's decision to quit the EU.
