MOMBASA, Kenya, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Three women were arraigned in Kenya's court on Tuesday facing charges of harboring three terror suspects in the coastal city of Mombasa.

The three Naima Mohammed, Saida Ali Haji and Shukuri Ali Haji were however not allowed to take plea since they had difficulties in communicating.

State Prosecutor Erick Masila said they will bring a Somali translator and sign language interpreter for the accused before they can be allowed to take plea. The three are Somali refugees.

Mombasa Resident magistrate Emmanuel Mutunga has ordered the three to be detained at port police station until Wednesday before they can stand trial.

Masila said the three were harboring persons concerned in commission of terrorism act.

The three were arrested immediately after Sunday's foiled attack at central police station where three female attackers were shot dead by police.

Mombasa County commander Peterson Maelo said preliminary reports indicate that the incident was terrorist attack but motives have not been established.

Police are also investigating the possibility that the three could have been motivated to carry out the attack to coincide with the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack in the United States.
