WINDHOEK, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's largest grain processing company, Namib Mills, distributed 600 portable solar lamps to its workers based in Windhoek Tuesday.
The company runs the Edu-Lite initiative that provides solar lights to school-going children living in informal settlements and rural areas that do not have access to electricity and use paraffin and candles for studying.
The solar lamp only needs one single sunny day of charging, and will shine for up to four hours on its brightest mode or for over 30 hours on its lowest setting.
When the initiative was started in 2015, the company distributed about 270 portable solar study lamps to students, while another 210 were given out this year in Windhoek.
The company is proud to have extended this Edu-Light initiative to their employees in order to allow them and their children to benefit from use of these portable solar lamps.
