SKOPJE, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- A 4.8-magnitude earthquake was registered on Monday evening in Macedonia, local media reported, referring to an announcement made by Macedonia's seismology observatory.
According to the seismology observatory, the quake measured 4.8 on the Richter scale while its epicenter was reported to be five km in the southeast of Skopje.
Macedonia felt several tremors on Monday, following the biggest one that took place on Sunday afternoon, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale.
The shakes have sparked panic among the citizens as many of them have been staying outdoor fearing a stronger quake.
However, seismology experts explained on Monday that such events are normal, considering the tremors as the aftershocks of the 5.3 Richter scale quake that hit the region of Skopje on Sunday.
