Myanmar-Thai border trade hits nearly 500 mln USD in five months

YANGON, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The total trade value between Myanmar and Thailand through border trade reached 499.861 million U.S. dollars in the first five months (April-August) of the 2016-2017 fiscal year, official media reported Monday.

The trade value increased by 100 million U.S. dollars year-on-year.

Myanmar has six border trade points with Thailand - Tachilek in Shan state, Myawaddy in Kayin state, Kawthaung, Myeik, Htikhi and Mawtaung in Taninthayi region.

Myawaddy is the one with the biggest trade transactions between the two countries amounting to over 340 million U.S. dollars.

The total trade border trade value of Myanmar with China, Thailand, India and Bangladesh through 15 border trade points during the first five months of this fiscal year reached 2.816 billion U.S. dollars, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Commerce.
