HANOI, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The People's Court in Vietnam's capital Hanoi agreed on Monday to extradite eight Indonesian pirates to Malaysia.

According to the court, a group of eight pirates planned to rob a Malaysian petrol tanker in early June 2015.

On June 11, 2015, when tanker Orkim Harmony was traveling in territorial water of Malaysia, these pirates tried to rob it and injured one crew member.

After that, they escaped into Vietnam's territorial water and were arrested by Vietnam Coast Guard and Border Guard, reported Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA.

These pirates were transferred to Criminal Police Department under Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) for handling.

Meanwhile, Malaysia prosecutors accused them of violating Malaysian criminal law.

In March 2016, the Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs sent a document to Vietnamese side, asking for extradition of these Indonesia nationals to stand trial in Malaysia.

The court decided to agree on the extradition request by the MPS. These people will have the right to appeal the decision in 15 days, reported the VNA.
